What is human trafficking?

According to the Government of Canada (2025), human trafficking involves displacing or holding victims for forced labour or sexual reasons, exploiting them for profit. Most instances of human trafficking go unreported, however according to police-reported incidents 93% of human trafficking victims were women and girls. Additionally, 91% of victims knew who their trafficker was, 42% of victims were between the ages of 18-24, and 23% of victims were youth under 18 years old.
